Learn about the developmental milestones that a baby is expected to achieve by 22 week (6th month) of her development. Also find tips for boosting her development.
Doesn't it seem strange that exactly 12 months ago, you were about 10 weeks pregnant? And now, you're the mother to a beautiful, healthy 22 weeks old baby. Its funny how time simply flies by and the tiny foetus that you had seen in your ultrasound, is now the cute, chubby, round little baby playing with you. 22 weeks means your baby is just more than 5 months old, and stepping into her sixth month. Of course, significant changes are bound to come over her. Her communication skills and personality skills are developing. Your baby is starting to behave more like a "human being", isn't she? Well hold on, very soon you will be accustomed to it.
Yes, you heard that right. Personality is undoubtedly the most important development during this phase. The baby who used to only sleep, cry and eat is now growing and playing, eating normal food, laughing and even talking a bit. Eventually, you will start to see hints of a personality in your baby. Maybe she is adventurous, and likes to experiment and has a thirst for knowledge. Or maybe she is outgoing, and likes meeting new people. You will understand that when you place her in front of strangers. In case she reaches out for you or starts crying, she is likely to be of the shy, reserved quiet type.
Things You Can Do With Your Baby
Play with your baby, spend time with her, and most importantly, make time for her during the day. Making time does not just mean feeding her, clothing her and changing her nappies. Sit down with her and play simple games together, like peek-a-boo or tickle her. She needs an opportunity to explore the world around her, and you're a part of that. Also, give her some space. Do not hover over her. Let her find out things for herself that will help her learn in the process.
Communication Skills at Week 22
You might notice that she is repeating the same words over and over again. And more often than not, it hasn't changed much since week 21. Why is that? At this age, your baby is simply practicing her language skills. In fact, at 22 weeks, babies have such a short attention span that they might move from one object to another in a matter of seconds. He is mastering skills, one at a time. Don't worry, he'll come around. You just have to be patient and keep trying. Keep speaking to him in a clear concise tone. Do not use baby talk while talking to him. Remember, your child is following everything you do and is great at picking up words and sounds. If you want his speech to develop properly, you need to let go of baby talk.
Milestones Reached
At this age, your baby is smart enough to reach out towards an object that you drop. If you're indeed trying this exercise with her, make sure that the object cannot be swallowed or prove to be harmful. In fact, she might even try to pick up bits of cereal and biscuits on her own.
An Answer to Your Questions
Your baby, at this stage, might not be sleeping at night. Well, that's absolutely normal. You see, when you wake up at night, you know how to put yourself back to sleep. Your baby does not. And until he does, you're in for a few sleepless nights. You can speed the process along by making sure your baby doesn't sleep too much in the course of the day.
At 22 weeks, you might be faced with a number of questions. “Is my baby developing all right?" or "Is my baby healthy, just like other babies?" and let's not forget - "Am I doing it right?". Well these few pointers might answer your question. How to boost baby’s development during 22nd week (6th month) of her development?
